Bluetooth 5 in the next week! – Double range, quadruple speed

Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SGI) is going to announce the next innovation of Wireless Connection Technology officially in the next week probably on 16th June in London Press Event. It has been named Bluetooth 5 which will be the successor of the last Bluetooth version 4.2. It will also bring vast changes in the modern technology. Mark Powell, its Executive Director published this news via e-mail sent to the UK Health and monitoring Company Blue Maestro.

The most advantageous fact is that, Bluetooth 5 will increase the range of the wireless connection by twice and will also increase transfer rate with four times speed. That is, the low energy Bluetooth users will then enjoy 1.3mbps speed and a range of 400m from their Bluetooth devices.

Mark Powell has also mentioned that, the Bluetooth SIG will also add some new features for the users like:

Location information:

Bluetooth 5 will offer new functions for wireless services which will be related to location information and navigation.

“By adding significantly more capacity to advertising transmissions, Bluetooth 5 will further propel the adoption and deployment of beacons and location-based services to users around the world.”

-Mark Powell.

Detailed advertising packet:

Advertising bears a different meaning for Bluetooth. Current packet contains some details like name, types of devices but the Bluetooth 5 will include more information along with a larger sized packet.

It helps in:

  • Identification,
  • Detection and
  • Connection to other Bluetooth devices.

New hardware:

The previous versions of Bluetooth need not have hardware included in it.  For example, Bluetooth 4.0 devices can be updated to version 4.1 and some even to version 4.2. But, the new Bluetooth 5.0 version might need new hardware. That is, Bluetooth 5-enabled devices might appear later this year.

It is very sad that, you cannot have it on your phone unless you carry a device supporting Bluetooth 5. And this will not be possible before 2017-2018.
